Mobile Security - the biggest shortcomings of the company

In the second part of our series "Mobile Security 2015" you will learn what German companies are lacking to effectively contain security risks. The TecChannel interviewed more than 600 IT and business executives from German companies.

Many companies lack specific mobile knowledge and experience. In addition, there are deficits in terms of organization and processes that preclude efficient security management. In the budgets and security concepts, for example, mobile aspects often play no role. These are the results of TecChannel in the study " Mobile Security 2015 ". More than 600 experts from large, medium and small companies participated in an online survey in cooperation with security specialists Baramundi Software , Kobil Systems , mediaTest digital and TüV Nord

Mobile security knowledge

Their general security -Knowledge appreciate the respondents, a relatively high. However, specific knowledge and experience on mobile aspects is often missing.

• 49.7 percent of the respondents certify themselves good or very good theoretical knowledge in data protection and data security . At the other end of the scale, fraud-prevention knowledge is particularly weak at 5.8 percent.

• 64.6 percent: In particular, survey participants at management level rate their data protection skills as good or very good.

• The knowledge values ​​for the app conditions (8.4 percent) and app risk management (9 percent) are particularly low overall.

• 23.2 percent have no good knowledge of any of the given security areas. Even among respondents from IT departments, the value is still at 22.1 percent.

• About one third of respondents (34 percent) are self-reported to be familiar with the key issue of identity management and authentication .
Experience with Mobile Security

• The practical experience in security corresponds to the theoretical knowledge. Companies are most likely to come into contact with data protection and data security (57 percent). At the level of the management, the value is 69.2 percent above average.

• Fewer practical experiences have so far gathered in fraud prevention.

• Only 10.2 percent of respondents have experience with app terms and conditions and related privacy policies. In the area of ​​app risk management, the value is 11.5 percent.

• 40 percent of organizations have experience with identity management and authentication. More than half of the larger companies (50.8 percent).

App selection: counting features, usability and security
Functionality goes above and beyond when it comes to enterprise app selection.

For almost 70 percent, functionality is the deciding factor in app selection. Usability plays a significant role for 42 percent. Particularly important is the usability aspect of participants at management level (50.8 percent).

Security features or a recognizable security concept are a decisive selection criterion for less than half (46.9 percent) of the respondents. The topic is more important in companies with more than 1000 employees (56 percent).

Security Certificates for apps are especially important to 29.3 percent of respondents.

Ratings in the respective App Store play hardly any role in the selection with 7.6 percent. But: A sound assessment or assessment of a specialized service provider, after all, 16.6 percent for decisive.
